Downtown Melbourne

Downtown Melbourne

This was our first vacation trip here to this wonderful area of Melbourne Beach. I think the number one surprise to all of us is we had no idea that there was this restaurant row zone on East New Haven Avenue. This is one of the most impressive little downtown areas that we have been in. Being born and raised in Florida I've had an opportunity to pretty much go about everywhere from international drive in Orlando down to Duval Street in Key West. This area is a little different but equally impressive in its own right.

Most people will really get into a quaint little town that has lots to see and do close by. We were staying out at the Radisson by the beach and it only took us about fifteen minutes to slowly peddle our bicycles over here and make it to check out the downtownmelbourne.com shops and the restaurants. Browse around to your hearts content and you get to see it all from the great Candy Store to the Rooftop Restaurant. There's a myriad of neat Things to Do so come on over and wear your walking shoes, the best kind of walking shoes because you might be at it for a couple of hours.

It reminds me a lot of an area called Dunedin Florida dunedin-fl.com which is over near the Gulf of Mexico next to Clearwater Beach. This city center is just a lot better put together with free parking lots all over the place and a great crowd of people. If you come on your bicycles there are lots of places to lock up your bikes. Make sure you walk over about a block or two away and check out the Crane Creek Promenade along the waterfront there. It's neat there's a lot of people on their Standup Paddle Boards and kayaks cruising around as this is an active city both on the sidewalks and in the water.

We ended up coming over here three different times on our five day vacation because we really enjoyed the scene. One of the things we noticed right away was all the history In the Area. Melbourne itself really has two downtown areas including Eau Gallie Boulevard and we like them both. Do for sure go and see some of the historic sites because the are numerous such as the Rossetter House Museum.

Brevard County Florida vacations are incredible and you get the best of everything with both Cocoa Beach and Melbourne Beach and all the little tiny cities in between. I think Melbourne downtown really adds a big punch to the area. It offers a whole another area for people to go to and makes for a super daytrip if you're in Vero Beach or Cocoa Beach for example. This area is not far at all and it's a beautiful drive to get here. If you're looking for a hotel nearby there is an excellent Marriott Residence Inn on south babcock street, which is about one mile away.

This is the kind of city center where you can actually save some money by being at a hotel that's not on the waterfront. It only takes about ten minutes to get over there on your bicycle and that way you save on your hotel bill, so you have more money for the fantastic restaurants. I will save the list of restaurants that you will find in this area for you to be surprised about. There are things here you've never had any place else, unique and that's why we like it. The old antique stores are everywhere and the world of Antiques fits quite nicely in the city that was really kind of put together back around 1880.

This is old Florida just beautiful in its own right, and it might be the best street around. Definitely put this on your to do list. We were completely impressed with the dining and restaurant opportunities. There are lots of bars if you're in for cocktails and happy hours. Restaurants are here for you when you get hungry and there's no hurry to go home because you can walk around and see the sights.

Downtown

Our Residence Inn hotel is fantastic, just like the one in Altamonte Springs. The next one on our trip is next to a big Shopping Center ddr.com with Publix and everything. I like the Cheddar's Casual Cafe cheddars.com which has santa fe spinach dip which is blended with sour cream, spices, four cheeses, and topped with mozzarella cheese. Find one location at 2130 west new haven avenue, west Melbourne.
